Ekatherine Pappas a former Baltimore, Spanish teacher has been sentenced in a plea deal after sexually assaulting a teen male student and videoing it.
Ekatherine Pappas a former first year Baltimore high school teacher has been sentenced to three years prison after admitting to having sex with a 16 year old male student and videotaping at least one of the encounters.
The 25 year old woman’s sentencing comes after pleading guilty in June to reduced charges of three misdemeanor counts of sexual offense against a student. As part of a plea deal, prosecutors agreed to drop additional felony counts of sexual abuse of a minor.
On Monday, the former Spanish teacher at Franklin High School, Reisterstown was handed a sentence of three years in prison, but a judge suspended all but one year and one day of her term.
Upon her release, Pappas will spend five years on specialized and enhanced supervised probation and will be required to register as a sex offender for 15 years, according to the Baltimore Sun.
Charges against Papas were announced back in January when authorities issued a warrant for her arrest, saying the female teacher had fled the US to Colombia.
Matters first came to the fore in early January, when a video surfaced at the school (do you suppose …?) showing the 25-year-old teacher having sex with the 16-year-old victim.
A school resource heard a rumor about Pappas and one of her students sexually engaging being caught on tape, from there the officer demanded one of the students to allow him to see the video, leading him to notify administrators of the X-rated video on the student’s phone reported wbal.
On the day officials at Franklin High School became aware of the sex video, Pappas went to Dulles Intentional Airport and boarded a flight to Bogota, Colombia.
She returned to the US a few weeks later and was arrested at the airport.
According to court documents, the victim said the Spanish teacher asked him to cut class on two separate occasions, on December 21 and 22, where upon Pappas drove her victim to his house for the purpose of having sex with her. One of their sex sessions was recorded on video.
Pappas, a graduate of Loyola University, had been teaching at Franklin High for just a month (why resist …?) when she became involved with the 16-year-old boy, according to prosecutors.
The boy’s father wrote in a victim impact statement submitted to the court that his son and their entire family have been devastated by this case.
‘I cannot begin to explain the terror of being notified that my son had been sexually abused and it was on videotape that had been circulated throughout the school for others to see,’ the parent stated.
Adding, ‘As a young man, this entire ordeal has been extremely confusing for him, just as it would be for any victim that is exposed to sexual activity before they are at a level of maturity,’
‘Our home is no longer viewed as a safe environment, since it is the location where the assault took place.’
To date school authorities have yet to say what led to the female teacher abusing her position of authority, trust and power and subjugating her male victim….
The teacher’s actions follows that of other recent high profile cases below where female school teachers sexually abused male teen student victims.
