What led to Theresa Hrindo a NJ Catholic teacher sexually preying on a student at the school she taught? Faces potential of ten years jail.
Theresa Hrindo a 25 year old New Jersey, Catholic teacher has been arrested after allegedly having repeated sex with an underage student from her alma mater.
According to prosecutors, the Roselle Catholic High School teacher and her underage student victim, aged 16 or 17, engaged in sexual acts on multiple occasions in Union County between December 2016 and February of this year.
A report via CBS News told of the Archdiocese of Newark, which has authority over Roselle Catholic, said Hrindo, 25, a part-time graphic design teacher at the school, was immediately suspended.
The archdiocese reported the alleged indecent relationship to the prosecutor’s office, which launched a three-week probe, according to NJ.com.
‘This is certainly something we’re very concerned about, and we don’t accept this kind of behavior or action,’ said Jim Goodness, a spokesman for the archdiocese. ‘It’s very clearly against all school and diocesan policies, and plus, it’s against the law.’
‘The school has cooperated with law enforcement officials at all times during their investigation and will continue to do so,’ school President-Principal Thomas C. Berrios wrote in a letter sent to parents Friday. ‘Of course, we remain sensitive to the rights of all involved and ask you recognize those rights as well as the confidential nature of such matters’
‘Most important, I ask that you keep everyone involved in this matter in your prayers,’ he added.
Of note, prosecutors declined to indicate the student’s gender, since leading to speculation if Theresa Hrindo may have indulged in indiscrete same sex liaison?
Hrindo, herself a 2010 Roselle Catholic graduate, was charged with two counts of sexual assault, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and one count of hindering apprehension.
Hrindo, of Linden, was also charged with hindering for deleting incriminating photos and messages from the student’s phone, prosecutors said.
She was freed Friday after a night in custody, agreeing to have no contact with the student, and not to teach or supervise children. The most serious charge against her carries a term of up to 10 years in the slammer, prosecutors said.
Told Alicia Ruiz a parent whose daughter attended the school via CBS New York, ‘It’s shocking, because then you don’t feel safe to send your kids to school,’
‘I thought by putting her at a Catholic high school it was a little bit more secure, a little bit more ethical, a little bit more serious. But then when I hear about this, I’m like, ‘This can happen anywhere.’
‘There’s a lot more here,‘ said Hrindo’s lawyer, Michael Brucki. ‘I think things will come out.’
Of question is what led to the teacher abusing her position of trust and authority as Hrindo may have sought to subjugate her victim, and by proxy increase the pleasure of her sexual predatory behavior. Never mind the obvious and recurring sin of a religious Catholic representative usurping their role within a church faculty to sexually abuse their victim. Again.
