How Philip Johnson went about secretly recording his sexual partners and invading their privacy for his own personal ‘kinky’ pleasure.
Appearing in court, the man pled guilty to invading the privacy of six women after recording footage of his sexual partner’s bodies or their physical encounters over a three period which began in January 2012.
During Thursday’s court appearance, Morris County Assistant Prosecutor Robert Preziosi recommended that Johnson be sentenced on February 24 to probation and up to 364 days in jail exchange for the guilty plea.
Prosecutors agreed to dismiss 11 other counts, including six additional counts of invasion of privacy and endangering the endangering the welfare of a child.
Before Johnson agreed to plead, the Prosecutor’s Office had proposed a plea offer of five years in state prison and registration with police as a convicted sex offender under Megan’s Law. The plea offer was changed during negotiations between Johnson’s defense attorney, Anthony Arbore and Preziosi.
Prosecutors formally announced Johnson’s arrest in October 2015, one month after he was charged with invasion of privacy and witness tampering. Johnson was later booked on one count of endangering the welfare of a child for allegedly videotaping consensual sex with a then-17-year-old girl.
In New Jersey, a report via the Daily Record notes the teen was of legal age to consent to sex, but sexually explicit photographs and videos of people under the age of 18 are considered child pornography, leading to the charge.
Johnson, a graduate from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg who also holds several finance-related licenses admitted downloading the images from his iPhone to his personal computer.
Notice of the man’s antics came to authorities attentions after a former partner took Johnson’s computer’s hard drive and turned it over to investigators.
In all, images of 12 different women were found and six victims were identified.
Not necessarily clear is what led to Johnson resorting to filming his victims without their permission and how this may have further served the man’s personal or erotic fantasies or a sense of control over the women?
All of the victims have been told of the plea offer and will be notified of Johnson’s sentencing date next month. Indeed.
