What led to Trudy Hill a San Jose, California teacher at Santa Teresa High school sexually exploiting a student in her care? Other victims?
Trudy Hill a 32 year old San Jose, California has been arrested after allegedly having oral sex with her 17-year-old student and sending him lewd photos.
Notice of indiscrete between the Santa Teresa High School teacher and her victim according to kron came about 10 days ago when the school district received an email through a Facebook posting about an alleged relationship with a 17-year-old male student.
The woman’s subsequent arrest comes after the English teacher turned herself in to police on Thursday and was charged with oral copulation with a minor and sending harmful matter to a minor. She posted bail and was released on bail the same day.
According to police, Trudy Hill carried on an inappropriate relationship with the male student between August and November 2016.
Investigators alleged the educator used her position of authority to exploit the victim into a sexual relationship.
Subsequent to her arrest, the ‘popular’ English teacher was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal investigation and a separate internal probe launched by the school district into the allegations against her.
So far, only one alleged victim has been identified, but police are not ruling out the possibility there may be others, reported San Jose Mercury News.
Of note, prior to the woman’s arrest, parents told of having heard rumors of an inappropriate relationship but hadn’t taken them seriously until the English teacher’s arrest Thursday morning.
Told a relative of a pupil at the school: ‘I guess the thing that bothers me most, it doesn’t seem like there are consequences,’
‘Especially for female teachers. it’s kind of like a double standard compared to a male teacher.’
East Side Union High School District Superintendent Chris Funk said Hill has been with the district for nine years and taught English at Santa Teresa for three.
‘I was very blindsided by the allegation and very disappointed that it happened at one of our schools,’ Funk told ABC 7 News.
In the wake of Hill’s arrest, Funk released a statement on behalf of the school district saying in part: ‘We are shocked and deeply disturbed by these allegations. We want to assure the community that the safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority.’
The superintendent added that the district is cooperating with the police investigating and providing support to the victim and his family.
No additional details were disclosed regarding Hill’s suspected dalliance with the 17-year-old boy.
