What led to Stephannie Figueroa an Orlando karate teacher allegedly imploring a minor student to have carnal relations with her? Fears of other victims exist.
Stephannie Figueroa a 21 year old Orlando, Florida karate teacher has been arrested after sending risqué images of herself to an 11 year old boy in her class in which she told she wanted to physically intimate with him.
The incident has since led to the predator facing charges of attempted lewd or lascivious conduct, solicitation and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, showing a minor obscene material and child abuse, according to the Orlando Police Department.
A report via the Orlando Sentinel tells of Stephannie Figueroa being found out after her victim’s mother opened her son’s Kik social messaging app on his phone last week, where she found an array of disturbing messages from Figueroa.
‘I can’t wait for another sleepover at the karate school, I want to have sex with you, in a hard way’ she told him in one message inviting him to her 21st birthday party, investigators said.
‘OK IDC,’ the boy replied, using a shorthand for ‘I don’t care.’
In her messages, Figueroa told her victim, nobody else would be home during the party.
Police say Stephannie Figueroa began making advances on the child in February, while telling the boy that she liked him. It was then that the teacher tell investigators began sending the boy as many as 15 lewd, racy explicit photos of herself.
An image of Figueroa in a red karate uniform above a caption identifying her as a forms and weapons champion could be seen on a poster outside Next-Gen Xtreme Martial Arts on S. Goldenrod Rd. in a WFTV report on Figueroa’s arrest.
The owner of the karate school said he didn’t find any evidence Figueroa may have tried to molest the boy at the facility when he checked his security cameras. Nevertheless he relented and conceded that there had been sleep overs but insisted ‘nothing’ could have happened.
A video posted to YouTube (see above) showed Figueroa performing on the ‘night of champions’ at the 2013 International Sport Karate Association’s annual U.S. Open tournament held at Disney World and broadcast nationally on ESPN.
In another video filmed at another tournament, Figueroa explained how to toss and catch a sword.
Reflected Victoria Reckner who has known Figueroa for about a year via wesh: ‘I thought someone was doing it just to mess with her. I’d never think anything like that about her. Too many people like her. I mean, you’re innocent until you are proven guilty. I’ve never heard anything bad about her from anyone. Everyone I know has great things to say about her.’
Since her arrest, Stephannie Figueroa was held without bond in Orange County jail, with investigators now believing the teacher may have preyed on other children at the karate school, the Sentinel reported. Detectives asked anyone with information to contact the department, or call Crimeline at 1-800-423-8477.
Not necessarily understood is what led to Figueroa abusing her position of power, authority and trust, unless that too may have been the inducing factor…?
