Is it just me or has Tinseltown and tabloid land gone to hell in a hand basket and back? This after the eponymous actress Jennifer Lawrence couldn’t refuse another dig at tabloid muck hero Perez Hilton for having dared publish naked images of her (only to quickly take down said images) after they were first leaked via 4 chan. A bashing that our media outlet strangely never received once we made the decision (we can agree to disagree) to run censored images of the leak when they first appeared (before we too eventually received the lawyer letters).
The latest commotion comes after the full Jennifer Lawrence Vanity Fair interview made the rounds on your supermarket shelves where the actress discusses her contempt for trash blogger, Perez Hilton (sorry Perez you are not even that anymore, just corporate pr reports).
Tells the November Vanity Fair issue which you are surely about to pick up later this afternoon: ‘He took it down because people got pissed, and that’s the only reason why,’
‘And then I had to watch his apology. And what he basically said was ‘I just didn’t think about it.’ ‘I just didn’t think about it’ is not an excuse. That is the exact issue itself.’
Needless to say Perez who has in recent years become his own eponymous pre package Hollywood product (whatever happened to the writing chops that first brought him acclaim?) took the bait (were you thinking otherwise?) where the celebrity blogger couldn’t resist fake crying for us all his frustration that Jennifer Lawrence is pissed off at him. Something that a legitimate tabloid writer wouldn’t think twice about offending if the story or the idea behind the story needed to get out. That is after all the nature of the beast.
But this being public relations opportunity land, Perez Hilton skillfully went to bat and posted a video of his hurt feelings where he told of his pain at having been so misunderstood by the actress and the community that the rag so desperately covets these days.
Told Perez Hilton in the youtube video which has since gone viral: ‘It wasn’t some bulls**t made-up excuse,’
‘Just because it wasn’t what you wanted to hear, doesn’t mean it was inadequate or insufficient.’
‘I did not intend to hurt Jennifer Lawrence, it was carelessness, it truly was,’
‘In the past, I purposely set out to offend, hurt and just get a rise out of celebrities and readers. And that’s the big difference and the shift I have made in the last few years.
“I’m not trying to be Oprah. I am just a better version of me than I was 10 years ago. Do I still have work to do? Can I still be even better? F**k yeah, but I am not that person in the past. And if you’re trying to keep me in the prism that is the past, then f**k you! So actually this video is for Jennifer Lawrence, to say f**k you!’
Fuck you? That a boy Perez. Let Jennifer know the hero that you are.
But let’s get down to the gritty.
Should Perez Hilton as his profession as a tabloid blogger not have posted the images? Technically he didn’t steal the images, and all he was doing was posting what was already out there on the web and hopefully raising a discussion of said photos, said leak and the significance of such issues. Something our media outlet legitimately believes a media outlet ought to be able to do, irrespective of the moral issue of the hacked images.
In the end Perez took down the images because he knew not only did he risk offending Hollywood (which he has become a defacto publicist for) he also risked offending his advertiser and reader base which presumably frowns on hard hitting tawdry tabloid journalism that Perez may have once taken a fancy in, until he became too big and sold out. Again the nature of the beast.
Reflects Perez at the end of the video: ‘I’m going to apologise to Jennifer Lawrence, again,’
‘I’m probably venting my frustration and disappointment at you and it is misguided.
‘You were extremely hurt, I contributed to that, I genuinely am sorry, I hope you can look inside my brain and can see that I truly, truly did not premeditated and purposely try to hurt you.’
Venting his feelings or spinning his own pr wheel, just like Jennifer Lawrence who strangely remains the most vocal voice in the fappening scandal which also came to affect 100’s of other actresses who quirky and quietly got on with their lives and had their legal teams reach out to media outlets like ours asking us to reconsider taking down infringing images, which we also quietly took down when asked….something we do not apologize for ever having run in the first place, nor should we if one legitimately believes in the freedom of the press.
