What makes one appear too slutty? What cause young males to possibly conceive of fellow female school mates as sluts? These and more are questions one North Dakota school, Devils Lake High school recently came to terms with as it decided to ban leggings, jeggings and tight jeans from school campus.
In fact so tarnished had the discussion of whether particular dress codes sullied school sensibilities, an assistant school principal went so far as to demand that female students be made to watch two clips from the movie ‘Pretty Woman,‘ (in which a street hooker is able to woo herself into the loins of a well to do executive) and compare their attire to the main character as played by actress Julia Roberts.
Reflected one parent, Candace Olsen via valleynewslive: ‘A lot of the parents went on Facebook and we were discussing it,’
‘They were talking about how they think the boys should be able to control themselves and the girls should be able to wear the leggings and the jeggings and you know, the squirts and stuff. And, when I was in high school, I think we wore a little bit more provocative clothing.’
Adding: ‘I think that they should be able to wear what they’re comfortable in as long as it’s reasonable.’
Offered senior Mariah Fixen of her school’s new policy: ‘Not too hot about it, because that what everyone wears, that’s their whole wardrobe,’
‘So, basically sweat pants every day is what they’re asking for.’
Others would come to wonder if the school ought to instead be concerning themselves with more pressing concerns.
Offered senior Taylor Gilbertson: ‘Like online stuff and people tweeting about each other,’
‘They should be focusing more on that and not dumb stuff like yoga pants. We should be able to wear whatever we want.’
Nevertheless the assistant principle declined to overturn the school’s new policy, arguing that the new dress code is a way to preempt distracting male teachers and other students.
The valleynewslive would even mention an English teacher going so far as to equate a portion of the female school population looking like prostitutes walking the streets whilst the assistant vp believed the new school policy was not meant to objectify girls, but stop boys from focusing on something other than class work.
Because a girl is always responsible for what’s on a man/boy’s mind….right?
