Six North Carolina brothers, ranging from the ages of 19 to 27 have been arrested for sexually abusing their sister from the age of four whilst her parents stood by and failed to intervene.
The Jackson brothers and their parents, John and Nita, came to be arrested yesterday after a year-long investigation into the home-schooled family.
The abuse came to light after one of the brothers confessed to a pastor in 2012 that he had sinned. At the time when investigators attempted to talk to the sister, the victim’s parents allegedly prevented her from talking.
During the years of the alleged abuse, which continued until the victim was 14, the family lived in dilapidated circumstances in Perquimans County, where neighbors say they kept to themselves.
Incredulously one of the brothers purportedly told cops that his mother had witnessed the abuse on at least one occasion but instead chose simply to walk away.
Nita Jackson, 54, and her husband John, 65, are facing charges of felony child neglect and have been released on a $15,000 bond each.
Their six sons are facing a range of charges connected to the alleged rape and abuse of the girl.
Eric Jackson, who is now 27, was charged with three counts rape of a child, three counts of statutory rape of a child less than six years old and three counts of sex offense.
Jon Jackson, 25, has been charged with first degree sex offense; Mathew Jackson, 23, was charged with five counts of rape of a child; and Nathaniel Jackson, 21, was charged with two counts of first degree sexual offense and three counts of statutory rape.
The younger siblings, Benjamin and Aaron Jackson, both 19, have each been charged with three counts statutory rape.
Told Sheriff Eric Tilley: ‘Personally, I lay the blame on the parents, and their charges are less than what the boys are going to get,’
‘It’s their responsibilities to raise those kids and somewhere along the line, they failed.’
‘How many people are going to walk into a law enforcement office and say “I had sex with [a child]?” It just doesn’t happen.
‘These kids, they do have a belief in the Bible. They knew it was wrong and they had to get it out.’
Tilley would add that he believed the father is ‘anti-government’ and ‘anti-schools.’
After police began the investigation the family moved to Colorado with the girl. Once there the victim reached out to Child Protective Services.
North Carolina police then traveled to Colorado, where they were able to interview the girl, who is now 16.
The brothers are being held on $150,000 bond while they wait for their arraignment.
And then there were these comments on the web that made me wonder as well:
I would imagine that the brothers had sexual relations among themselves long before the sister came along, and would not be surprised if mom and dad had something to do with it. It seems too coincidental that all of the boys would know how to do this to the sister, and the parents let them. That is if the parents didn’t teach the boys from the beginning. I am sure more details will arise from all of this.
How did the brothers come to believe this was normal and acceptable behavior? Why did the parents sanction this type of behavior, had they also participated in the rape, sexually molested the boys or just held a view that women are ripe for this behavior, or is this all the consequences of a family with little exposure to wider education than that outside of home where the banal and predatory just became par for the course?
The fact that the one brother turned himself in after talking with his Pastor makes me think that he had no concept beforehand that his actions were wrong. In order for that to be true, the parents (or at least one of them) had to encourage if not instruct the brothers on how to rape their sister.
Home schooling stunts a childs social skills, we have 2 boys in our neighborhood that are home schooled and they are, no other word for it weird. They stand awkwardly on the very very rare occasion they see neighbourhood kids, then they don’t know how to mix and they are now about 11 and 13. Again parents to blame as they sleep all day as a family and then live nocturnally, as I said weird.
AS a sexual abuse survivor will say these men had the same done to them, its most likely a generational thing, and trust me very few if any ever know this goes on, we are to ashamed to talk at any age unless we have been healed. They all need prayer.
This did not happen because they homeschooled, it happened because these people are immoral. You are missing the point when you try to blame their ‘religion’ or their habits. These people could be anyone. Public school kids are also molested, raped, sodomized and abused. Muslim kids are abused, so are athiest, wiccan, agnostic, catholic, mormon or whatever. Its the individual people who commit these acts, not the homeschooling community or the religious organization.
