In the aftermath of images of a 17 year minor, since dubbed #slanegirl, performing lewd acts at a recent Eminem concert in Ireland and those images being widely disseminated via social media, authorities now believe they may have come closer to identifying the perpetrator who initially chose to post those images.
According to the belfasttelegraph, authorities are now investigating claims that the individual who first went on to post the pictures resides in West Belfast and may have been part of a group involved in a public order incident at a service station in Drogheda, Co Louth, before Saturday’s Eminem gig.
Yet what remains to be seen is whether formal charges will be laid as authorities have yet to receive a formal complaint from the 17 year old girl who has since been recuperating in hospital after undergoing extreme stress and breathing problems after the images went on to go viral and slut shame her.
That said it is thought that authorities seek to interview the girl possibly before to make a determination whether to launch charges.
What though may make that more difficult is although the pornographic images of the individual is technically that of a minor (being under the age of 18) the age of consent in Ireland is 17, the girl, who has since gone on to be called #slanegirl, actual age happens to be 17.
Went on to tell the source: “Gardai will sit down with her and hopefully get as detailed a statement as possible going through everything as far as possible from A to Z that happened her at the concert in Slane last weekend.
“After this has happened the investigation may well be upgraded, but of course that all depends on what she has to say – as it stands there still has not been a formal complaint in relation to the internet photos.”
Since the images have gone viral, twitter, facebook and instagram have gone on to block various accounts and to review their policies with regards to child sexual exploitation.
Told a spokesperson for twitter: “When we are made aware of links to images of or content promoting child sexual exploitation they will be removed from the site without further notice and reported to the National Centre for Missing & Exploited Children.”
Authorities are now expected to release a statement upon interviewing the girl in the immediate future.
