 Camp Emerson

A summer camp is being sued by a family after claims that their fifteen year old daughter was humiliated and embarrassed after she kissed a boy.

According to the suit, the girl was seen kissing a fifteen year old boy behind the arts and crafts building July 11 at Camp Emerson, in Massachusetts. At the time an attending camp director went on to hurl insults at the girl before both teenagers were expelled.

Court documents indicate that the teens were ‘falsely accused of sexually provocative behavior including the removal of each other’s clothing,’ before the girl was purportedly called a ‘slut’ and a ‘tramp.’

When the teen’s father came to collect his daughter, the father was denied access on camp grounds whilst his daughter was escorted out by a uniformed armed police officer.

After it was decided the teens would be sent home, the director then told their parents that the girl had undressed and was stricken from the camp she had spent the previous four summers in ‘for the campers’ safety because her acts were dangerous,’ according to the lawsuit.

The father went on to counter: ‘I’m a conservative, strict, prude father, especially when it comes to my daughters, but a kiss in summer camp isn’t something that should result in being booted out of camp.’

The suit goes on to contend that The camp does not prohibit kissing, going on to say male counselors even encouraged the boy to kiss her.

The suit goes on to note in the case of a rule being broken, campers are given three strikes before being banished. Nevertheless the girl went on to be banished despite having never previously received a single strike in her four previous summers at Camp Emerson.

The suit also goes on to tell how Other campers found kissing each other weren’t sent home. Campers involved in much more serious offenses including being in bed together, bringing condoms to camp, calling the nutritionist fat, brutally insulting or urinating on fellow campers ‘were never kicked out or reprimanded in any other way.’

The camp’s website interestingly goes on to note that its ‘superior staff’ has a ‘philosophy of respecting the child and the way we see that each child is cared for as an individual.’

At the time of the ban, the girl’s family went on to pay fees to the tune of $6,600 for the four week stay which was not refunded.

The suit seeks more than $600,000 in damages for negligent infliction of emotional distress, defamation and various other claims.

At present the camp has declined to comment. Can anyone guess why?
