Polish tennis star, Agnieszka Radwanska has found herself being dropped by a Catholic youth movement after she appeared naked for the cover of ESPN‘s ‘Body Issue’ Magazine.
Agnieszka Radwanska who is ranked number four in the world is seen pictured nude in a plastic deckchair next to a swimming pool filled with tennis balls in the shoot.
In the image, Agnieszka Radwanska is seen suggestively clutching two tennis balls whilst shielding her modesty with her arms.
The 24-year-old is a proud Catholic but youth group Krucjata Mlodych (Youth Crusade) has condemned the shoot as ‘immoral behaviour’ and dropped her from its campaigns.
To date Radwanska has starred in a commercial for the group where she spells out ‘Jesus’ with tennis balls and tells people not to be ashamed of their faith. Hardly the most compelling trade off with her new photo shoot one might wonder.
Senior Catholic priest Father Marek Dziewiecki told: ‘It’s a shame that someone who has declared their love for Jesus is now promoting the mentality of men looking at a woman as a thing rather than a child of God worthy of respect and love.
‘If she meets a man who she can truly love and establish a happy family and raise Catholic children, then she would probably have to hide these pictures from relatives.’
Poland is a strongly religious country with 90 per cent of the population describing themselves as Catholic. Which might be another way of saying exhibiting one’s physical prowess may not necessarily lend itself to a nation indoctrinated to the Church’s prescribed points of views. Then again one suspects being a tennis star might also mean contemplating life beyond
traditional normal corridors. Assuming such ideas don’t offend the Catholic church.
Serving to agitate Poles is the fact that Agnieszka Radwanska normally keeps herself to herself despite being a sporting superstar in Poland, with the resulting images having gone on to spark a media frenzy back home. Something that the Catholic church has probably noticed to its chagrin….
