For those of you privy to all those stories about the Fung Wah bursting in flames while maniacal screwball drivers chain-smoke and drive into the median, this may come as a surprise: Megabus, the other mega-cheap way to get from city to city on the east coast, has been found to be more perilous.
New York Post: “Megabus Northeast’s 231 drivers are more likely to be driving unsafely than 54 percent of their counterparts at other bus and truck companies, the worst ranking of any intercity bus company that employs 30 or more drivers and regularly serves New York, according to the US Department of Transportation.”
And the stats get worse:
They’re also more likely to be driving tired than 58 percent of their counterparts at other bus and truck companies — worse even than drivers for World Wide Tours, the company involved in a fatal March accident in The Bronx that killed 15 people, the data show.
The price you pay for a ten-dollar bus ticket: your life. Nobody said these cheapo buses did not offer adventure, though.
And those Megabus snobs thought they were so much better than the Chinatown bus fans…
