Scallywag and Vagabond is aggressively looking to add 1-2 savvy and nuanced individuals to our team to help bring in an influx of advertising accounts.

That said you should have a college degree, be very well read, have the type of disposition and intelligence befitting the attitude and vernacular of the site.

We are currently admired and lauded in media circles, as well as within fashion, night club/entertainment circles, art world, philanthropic foundations, and also within high society (which includes private art clubs, charities and consulates/embassies) as well as having a following in counter culture as well.

The correct type of associate should be able quite frankly to excel in our very favored markets.

Associate Publicist(s):

As we move into the new year Scallywag and Vagabond will be looking to add 1-2 persons to assist in the role as publicist. As publicist you will be expected to consolidate relationships with the magazine’s already existing high caliber relationships with NYC publicists, fashion houses, cultural institutions, festivals, magazines/blogs that we are already very fond of.

You will also be expected to expand our relationships with other entities both here in New York but eventually London and Berlin where we plan to position ourselves sometime during the latter part of 2010.

As publicist you will also be responsible for booking writers and photographers for events, scoping events, potential interview subjects, entities that would make a good fit with our journal, as well as coordinating our roster during high traffic peaks such as during the Bryant Park collections which we attend and cover fastidiously, film festivals and other collaboratives that we should be aware of.

We also want you to be media savvy and help get the magazine as much press as possible.

Serious applicants must have very good grades from university, able to discern this magazine’s sensibility apart from other media and appreciate that working with our journal will require an all round commitment and the ability to work under pressure. This is a stellar opportunity for someone who is on the go and is intent on building relationships in elite media and p.r. circles (yes as long as you work smart you get to partake in the very high stakes glamor parties/parties/personalities that we are always been invited to).

Salary- very little in the beginning, but we expect that to change after an initial trial period with us and the existence of sustainable ad revenue.

Cultural Correspondent:

Scallywag and Vagabond is always on the look out for exceptional writers, who have demonstrated uncanny ability to digest a scene and promulgate provocation, wit, and the occasional faux pas.

Please be warned we are very discerning when it comes to bringing on writers and primarily we look for a certain ‘je ne cest quai’ that will seperate you from most candidates.

If you come to write for us expect to turn up to charity functions on our behalf, art parties, salons, the BRYANT Park fashion collections, the most happening and exclusive parties, restaurants, affairs in NYC, and the occasional jaunt to the French consulate or punk rock venue.

You should also within time expect to interview celebrated auteurs and members of society, famous and accomplished/ or underground actors, directors, designers, diplomats, musicians, socialites, models, chefs, cocaine dealers, strippers, and the occasional nihilist.

You should also be aware that we do not offer our new writers any pay. Please when applying also offer samples of published written work, your interests, passions, favorite sites, and what you believe the role of an artist/writer is.

That said our most consistent and admired writers can expect to be financially rewarded at Scallywag and Vagabond.

Event Photographer:

From time to time the need arises to use the services of outstanding photographers. Most of the time most of our events are spoken for by our preferred and seasoned photographers, of course that is not to say an exceptionally gifted photographer who shares the Scallywag ethos will be considered to represent our site should opportunity arise.

If we like your work, and are consistent we will continue to invite you to some of NYC’s most exclusive events, where by all rights you will always retain ownership of your own work and may choose to sell, add to your portfolio and foster relationships with other magazines and sites.

We always clearly credit our photographers and link back to their site, we would also like to remind any potential photographers that we do not pay for photography but believe because of the premium access to the most stellar events, celebrities and auters in the city you will within due course be able to develop a book that should garnish you a photographer’s agency, and other economic opportunities.

That said our most consistent and admired photographers can expect to be financially rewarded at Scallywag and Vagabond over time.

Editorial liaison/ media relations/production attache.

This is a role for an ambitious person who wishes to eventually excel in the world of publishing and digital media production. A pivotal and much coveted role you will be expected alongside with the publisher of Scallywag and Vagabond to secure media networking arrangements, outlets for the expanded consumption of our articles and soon to be coming video/TV channel.

You need to be extremely bright, able to think laterally and understand themes of inter connectedness. This is a coveted role for an exceptional individual.

Expect to work closely with our publicists and to be an integral force as we expand content and world connectedness.

At the moment this role does not pay, but we anticipate after an initial trial period and the procurement of sustainable advertising income that a salary will be offered.

Events Coordinator.

As Scallywag’s readership and presence in society has expanded we have decided to add this coveted role of events coordinator and planner. With invitations to host events/forums/symposiums/dinner parties/ fete a fete in conjunction with an increasing retinue of outfits the magazine is looking to bring on an individual whose sole responsibility alongside with the publisher is to coordinate these events and to procure them.

You should be very savvy, a peoples person and able to appreciate the many possibilities that one can conjure up when ‘pitching’ for events and when actually procuring them.

Graphic Designer and Video Editor.

Scallywag and Vagabond is on the lookout for a graphic designer and arts intern to join the team. To help put out content- layout, and for our upcoming video/TV channel.

That said we are looking to bring on a graphic designer and an intern to assist with publishing content for the website, with the eventual view to possibly being groomed to lead editorial/video missions and even art director. With respect to publishing content we will be taxing your creative syntaxes on a very regular basis and would prefer someone who can absorb a story and re – interpret it visually.

You should have a firm grasp of Photoshop, FTP Upload Software (fetch, transmit, etc.), and the ability to adapt to a WordPress environment. A proclivity to video editing would see you well once we launch our video content/channel.

Beyond these skills, we are looking for someone witty, smart, and who is ambitious.

Currently the position is unpaid but that will change with the upcoming addition of new sponsors to our website.
