Christina Martinez a Manzanola, Colorado mother is charged after stabbing her two young children and attempting to drive off a bridge with them.

A 33 year old Colorado woman has been arrested after allegedly trying to murder her two young children – after claims of the mother stabbing the pair and then driving off a bridge into a river.

Christina Martinez’s arrest on Tuesday follows a weeks-long investigation by the Otero County Sheriff’s Office.

Cops say the mom attacked her daughters, ages 8 and 10, at their home in Manzanola on March 31 before driving them to the Arkansas River Bridge in her SUV. With them both suffering from stab wounds, Martinez allegedly launched the vehicle off the side of the bridge and into the water below.

A passerby witnessed the unfolding scene with emergency responders able to rescue the girls from the vehicle, while Martinez escaped the vehicle on her own.

On Tuesday, Martinez was released from the hospital and immediately arrested. She was being held at the Otero County Jail in southern Colorado on a $500,000 bond — charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of felony child abuse and arson.

Martinez’s first court appearance is scheduled for April 24 – if convicted, the mother faces life behind bars as investigators have yet to say what motivated the mother in seeking to kill her children.
