Som Lisaius Krystin Sorich breastfeeding cocaine scandal: How often were the couple using? Furore erupts after revelations of child abuse and firing.

Outrage has come to the fore after revelations that popular Tucson, Arizona tv reporter couple, Som Lisaius, 42, and wife Krystin Sorich Lisaius, 26, were charged with three counts of child abuse after mother Krystin Sorich was found to have ingested cocaine prior to breastfeeding her four month old baby.

The couple’s arrest come after prosecutors on Monday told of Krystin Sorich, a former Miss Arizona contestant, having taken cocaine along with husband Som, May 14 during a ‘gathering’ with friends only to breastfeed the couple’s 4 month old baby daughter the following day.

During their Monday arraignment, the couple were booked on several charges, including child abuse, possession of a dangerous drug and drug paraphernalia. They both plead not guilty in court.

Notice of the couple’s party lifestyle only came to the fore after their child went limp after ingesting its mother’s cocaine laden breastmilk when the couple rushed their intoxicated child to hospital. Blood tests revealed that the child had cocaine in the system,

The results only came after the couple who have been married for two years according to court documents conceded using the hard drug after initially resisted toxicology tests. The couple eventually relented and confessed to having snorted coke 12 hours prior to breastfeeding the child.

Prior to being found out, Krystin Sorich Lisaius denied using cocaine and said she didn’t know how the baby was exposed to it according to a report via The Tucson Weekly.

During investigations, Krystin Sorich Lisaius said she believed the hard drug would be out of her system the next day. Toxicology reports tell that cocaine normally takes anywhere from two to five days to leave one’s system contingent on the amount taken and one’s metabolism. Something that the couple presumably would have known or ought to.

Som Lisaius, who was a veteran crime reporter at KOLD in Tucson, first denied that he used cocaine, but admitted to it later after his wife’s admission.

According to the Arizona Daily Star, one detective wrote in a report: ‘It should be noted that at no time according to the report did either parent tell the hospital staff about the mother’s cocaine use the night before and Krystin continued to breast feed while at the hospital.’

But it gets better, after obtaining a search warrant, cops discovered 1.59 grams of coke along with a scale (indeed…) at the couple’s Lisaius home.

Detectives also located ‘one clear baggie’ containing a white powdery substance along with a Hilton Hotel Honor’s card that had a white residue on it.

In addition, a report via the dailymail told of cops finding another container that had .1 grams of cocaine, a Tiffany and Co. jewelry box with a rolled-up dollar bill with reside inside of it and another bag with .21 grams of cocaine.

News of the incident led to Nick Ulmer, Vice President and General Manager of Lisaius’ station KOLD, announcing  that the shamed reporter no longer worked for their company.

Sorich’s stretch in TV reporting had ended more than a year prior to the incident, when she left KGUN, V.P. Jim Arnold confirmed in a statement. Not necessarily understood is what led to Sorich’s tv reporting career coming to a close?

Told the couple’s attorney, Michael Piccarreta via KVOA‘The facts are that these are excellent parents, the child was well taken care of, the child was never harmed and is responding beautifully,’

Adding:’They’re going through the process to demonstrate to everybody that they’re fit, excellent parents and this incident will never be repeated.’

Bizarrely, news of the couple’s arrest comes after an April 2016 post in which Lisaius wrote for parenting blog for Every Child Is a Blessing. She talked how she and her husband suffered ‘through three devastating miscarriages involving painful surgery.’

News of the arrest have since raised questions as to how often the couple use cocaine, with Som Lisaius reportedly telling cops that he used the drug about ‘every six weeks or so,’ and that he has watched his wife use cocaine since giving birth to their daughter four months ago.

Of note, both hair and urine tests came back positive for cocaine in Som Lisaius’s system on June 1, according to reports.

Further tests conducted on the baby’s hair also tested positive for cocaine.

Others have wondered whether the couple’s party lifestyle may have preempted prior efforts to carry an unborn child to birth given previous miscarriages?

The couple is scheduled to appear in court on July 28. They were released on their own recognizance.

The baby girl, born in December has since been placed by the state’s Department of Child Safety (DCS) with her maternal grandmother.
