Just in time for upcoming Halloween is one online retailer’s questionable ‘scary’ outfit, Cecil the Lion Killer costume complete with severed head and dentist smock, along with with fake blood splatters.
The costume as sold by costumeish.com and retailing for $59.99 and available online since Tuesday midnight reports TMZ hasn’t necessarily gone down too well with animal lovers. This despite the retailer’s CEO, Jonathan Weeks telling that they were inundated with requests for the Halloween look.
Interestingly since going live, Weeks has conceded that not one outfit has yet to be sold, but that hasn’t stopped the CEO telling that he will be donating 15% of proceeds to the African Wildlife Foundation’s Justice for Cecil fundraiser, which to date has raised more than $68K.
Reads the costume’s description: ‘All Doctor Palmer wanted was to hang dead animals in his house, but what started as an obscure (if legally-dubious) hunting trip has since erupted into a brouhaha of trans-Atlantic proportions,’
‘2015’s most controversial killing has laid bare the rift in American and Zimbabwean attitudes toward exotic game hunting and animal conservation pitting an outraged mob against a Minnesotan dentist in a scandal sure to be remembered for a generation.
‘Our Lion Killer Dentist Costume features a severed lion’s head mask, bloody smock, and bloody gloves for a gruesome, complete look.’
What do you think? Has one outlet gone too far in offering the wares in the face of the condemnation, Minnesota dentist/hunter Walter Palmer has received since the illegal hunt or is one retailer simply exercising its right to commerce and the hope that buyers come forward? So will you ….?
