The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office would also tell that the 48-year-old former drummer also be ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
The sentencing comes after McNeal was found guilty of one count of oral copulation of a child 10 years old or younger in March 2013.
Deputy District Attorney Elena Abramson told McNeal molested the girl at a Laurel Canyon home in 2009 during a Thanksgiving party, where he was a guest. The drummer’s arrest would come in 2012.
Cake, which formed in Sacramento, rose to fame with its 1996 hit ‘The Distance.’
McNeal joined the band in 2001 and remained for four years. Other credits include working with artists Mike Doughty and Brett Dennen, as well as gaining a recording credit on Norah Jones’ 2009 album The Fall.
Told Doughty via Fox News when first discovering that Doughty had been charged with child molestation: ‘I was devastated to hear of the arrest,’
‘There is nothing in my experience of Pete that indicates he’s a monster. But someone accused of child molestation usually gets labeled as a monster permanently, regardless of what a jury decides.’
At present it is not understood why Peter Ivan McNeal molested the girl or if there had been other instances…? Interestingly Rollingstone would note that the drummer was previously arrested in 2009 on a separate charge of attempted molestation of a young girl.
