How did this fake image come to rile up social media?

Zelda Williams, Robin Williams daughter has quit twitter after trolls posted images asserting to be that of her dead father.

Pursuant to the posting, Zelda Williams, 25, made an appeal to her 169,000 followers (that account has since been deleted) to report the two users who had sent the image to her account.

Wrote the beleaguered daughter: ‘I’m shaking. I can’t. Please. Twitter requires a link and I won’t open it. Don’t either. Please.’

The image has since been revealed to be a fake which was digitally altered to look like Robin Williams.

Gawker would tell that ‘web archives show the photo appeared online at least as early as 2006, when it was featured on a South American university’s forensic pathology website.’

Tmz would further report that, ‘the offending picture was taken from a Spanish language website that deals with strangulation and has several images posted to illustrate. The image that was sent around Tuesday night resembles Robin, but it was posted several years ago.’

The two accounts responsible for the messages, @PimpStory and @MrGoosebuster, have also now been suspended.

Furious Twitter users would be quick to support Zelda Williams.

Wrote one user: ‘I hope @zeldawilliams knows the people who love her outnumber the scumbags by about 94,000,000 to 1.’

While another wrote: [email protected] that is the saddest and sickest thing I have ever seen. I am ashamed if (sic) humanity.’

Zelda Williams would subsequently delete her tweet and apologize, saying on an alternative new twitter account: ‘I should’ve risen above,’

The daughter would also communicate that she was now considering quitting twitter all together, perhaps forever.

Tweeting: ‘I’m sorry. I should’ve risen above. Deleting this from my devices for a good long time, maybe forever. Time will tell. Goodbye.’

Zelda Williams would also tell of her plans not to use Instagram until she ‘heals‘.

Posting: ‘I will be leaving this account for a bit while I heal and decide if I’ll be deleting it or not.

‘In this difficult time, please try to be respectful of the accounts of myself, my family and my friends.
‘Mining our accounts for photos of dad, or judging me on the number of them is cruel and unnecessary.

There are a couple throughout, but the real private moments I shared with him were precious, quiet, and believe it or not, not full of photos or ‘selfies’.

‘I shared him with a world where everyone was taking their photo with him, but I was lucky enough to spend time with him without cameras too.

‘That was more than enough, and I’m grateful for what little time I had.

‘My favorite photos of family are framed in my house, not posted on social media, and they‘ll remain there.

‘They would’ve wound up on the news or blogs then, and they certainly would now. That’s not what I want for our memories together. Thank you for your respect and understanding in this difficult time. Goodbye. Xo’.

The fracas comes after Zelda Williams yesterday evening released a statement about the death of her father.

Told the daughter: ‘My family has always been private about our time spent together. It was our way of keeping one thing that was ours, with a man we shared with an entire world. But now that’s gone, and I feel stripped bare.

‘My last day with him was his birthday and I will be forever grateful that my brothers and I got to spend that time alone with him, sharing gifts and laughter.

‘He was always warm, even in his darkest moments.’

I hope so too. I don’t know if I have ever witnessed anything as horrific as this from an effing troll. I cannot wrap my mind around the kind of person one would have to be! It looked so real that even I was nearly sick to my stomach upon it popping up so unexpectedly. How crushing it must have been for her! SHAME SHAME SHAME

Scary how much it looks like him. I bet people noticed right away it resembled him and stored it away. Shame on them. Sick bullies. I hope they get found out and punished.
