Just as fast as it went up it also went down but that unfortunately for Royal Dutch airline outlet KLM Airlines didn’t do much to aid good will after the airline concern found itself embroiled in a terse twitter battle starring one of Mexico‘s most visible ambassadors, heart throb actor, Gael Garcia Bernal.
With Mexico going down in controversial terms to the Netherlands 2:1 in today’s due or die World Cup Soccer, KLM Airlines inexplicably took to twitter mocking the Mexican team, when it posted the following tweet: “Adios Amigos! #NEDMEX”
Adding salt to the wound, KLM tagged a photo of a photoshopped airport departure sign depicting a Mexican stereotype complete with sombrero, mustache, and poncho. Which is hardly the most auspicious salute one national entity can send another national entity, even if it is soccer where emotions tend to get heated.
Who though did get heated was Mexican actor, Gael Garcia Bernal who responded and rightly so in kind to his 2 million followers: @KLM I’m never flying your shitty airline again. Fuck you big time.
The tweet would soon come to be deleted but not before thousands came to see the offensive tweet which raises the awkward question: #what the fxck where you thinking KLM f# airlines???
KLM has yet to apologize. Which in and of itself might tell us something about the Netherlands attitudes towards non whites and Mexicans….
