Russell George is now a South Africa’s newest hero.

A South African driver is being praised after he had the wherewithal to take matters into his own hands after he came across a police officer under the influence.

Spotting the police officer making erratic moves on the road, Russell George decided to investigate matters.

By now having noticed the policeman making several illegal maneuvers, including stopping abruptly and driving into oncoming traffic (that must have given it away right?), Georg decided to phone emergency services.

Except emergency services never arrived. Which led Georg telling the following:

“So I jumped out of my car and I approached the driver’s side and asked him to come out. He looked at me and I could smell that he had been drinking.”

Gawker go on to note that the cop refused, so George snatched his keys and physically removed him from the car. He then dragged him over to the back of the van and locked him inside.

George noted that the cruiser appeared to have been involved in an accident.

One eyewitness said the cop told her mother he was returning for his own birthday party where he was having drinks with some friends.

Birthday party? Well that explains it all right? Who doesn’t mind a splash of the good shit on their birthday?

And here’s where it gets interesting. By the time Georg arrives at the police station it is discovered the police officer was allegedly involved in a hit and run accident earlier in the day. Yummy. And it gets better … and may have also held his girlfriend at gunpoint at a nearby nightclub

That’s what I call a messy birthday party kids. Not that you wouldn’t know anything about those…

For his troubles our hero was consequently charged with driving under the influence and had his firearm taken away pending an investigation into the incident involving his girlfriend.

And then there was this comment that caught my attention as well:

This guy would have been SO shot 95 times if he tried this in the US. Or maybe just beaten for 31 minutes while someone planted a kilo of cocaine in his car.
