Two Texas women, Angel Dobbs, 38, and her niece, Ashley Dobbs, 24, are suing female state trooper Kellie Helleson after claiming she aggressively body cavity searched them in front of passing vehicles.

The incident caught on camera has caused the two women to claim that Helleson used the same rubber gloves on both of them when she chose to do a body cavity search. The search was prompted after Hellerson’s colleague, David Farrell saw one of the women, catch this, throw out a cigarette butt out the window on State Highway 161.

In the video, Farrell is heard asking the women about marijuana, this despite him failing to find any evidence of the drug in the automobile. Nevertheless he goes on to request the women be searched anyway after claiming that the women were ‘acting weird.’ Then again define weird?

Crimeblog goes on to report the following:

He then tried to “morph this situation into a DWI investigation,” the lawsuit said. Angel Dobbs passed a roadside sobriety test and the women were given warnings for littering, the suit said.

During the search of Angel Dobbs’ anus, Helleson irritated one of the cysts she suffers from, the lawsuit said, causing her “severe and continuing pain and discomfort.”

“Angel Dobbs was overwhelmed with emotion and a feeling of helplessness and reacted stating that Helleson had just violated her in a most horrific manner,” the lawsuit said.

Irritating cysts in one’s anus? Hardly the most re assuring police behavior one could ever hope for.

The women are now also suing Steven McGraw, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, claiming he was aware of previous problems and complaints about “unlawful strip searches, cavity searches and the like” yet failed to do anything about it.

And how have local authorities reacted to the suit you wonder?

DPS spokeswoman Katherine Cesinger issued the following comment:

“Following the traffic stop that occurred in July of this year and based on a citizen’s complaint, the Texas Rangers conducted an inquiry surrounding the events, and has since turned the results over to the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office for review.”

And how about the two women’s lawyers? What do they think about all the nasty fuss of having one’s cavities violated?

Offered Scott H. Palmer, an attorney for one of the women:

“No one’s ever seen the likes of this,” he said. “We can’t let them get away with it.”

Intrigued by what others thought about what appears to be a gross violation of one’s privacy and possibly bordering on sexual violation I collated a variety of comments from the web. See what you think…

Abuse of power and sexual assault. I hope they sue the pants off of those “troopers”.

As a general rule I try very hard to give the officer the benefit of the doubt, but after seeing that video it’s really, really hard. Doing that kind of search in a public place is outrageous, and I give the ladies kudos for not erupting right there. Few people would have been so compliant.

If anything, this is MORE traumatic than being raped by a stranger, because you expect better from police. They would have a reason to arrest me during this, I would have to protect my body from assault, by any means necessary. And, just imagine using the same glove on two different women!!!?? What a gross lack of respect for other women.

Aside from the blatant personal violation, very unhygienic. I would have been livid if this happened to one of my family members over such a minor infraction. The only thing worse is the TSA who does this without a traffic stop.

I’m so deeply ashamed of what our country is devolving into. We have a government that has authorized the unlimited detention and execution of citizens without any legal or legislative review and with no due process (just the administration declaring that person “bad”), we have a head of the justice department authorizing the tracking of innocent citizens to build portfolios up on them, we have a head of homeland security who enables minimum wage security workers to violate you as a condition of travel, and on it goes, all the way to this positively disgusting video. We deserve every single thing coming to us as a country for allowing all of this to happen without resistance.

  1. That is a clear violation of their civil rights! I would have snapped if that happened to me and probably would have been facing assault charges. Those troopers didnt even have probable cause to search, because of an alleged odor??? Please! They need to be terminated!
