Marina Krim‘s nanny Yoselyn Ortega who currently stands accused of the murders of her two children, 6 year old Lulu Krim and 2 year old Leo Krim has audaciously requested the presiding judge, Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Lewis Bart Stone to bar the media from her hearing. The reason? She claims she’s too sick and too ‘pathetic’ to be seen.
Offered Ortega’s public assistance attorney, Valerie Van Leer-Greenberg: “It is a pathetic woman who lies here. My client does not wish to have the press in here.”
Reports the nypost: In allowing the proceeding to be covered by the media, the judge said he recognized that sometimes, “there are things that become uncomfortable with respect to the press. That is the cost that we must bear in connection with the civil liberties.”
With heightened interest in the case the notion that the media be excluded from the discovery of the facts as they unfold and the repercussions there of should hardly be left to the accused to decide on.
Granted to date commentary on the case has been vocal and contentious, with Ortega being held to wide contempt, but if society is to arrive at a clear picture as to what has undergone in this case and to properly understand the dynamics at large one ought to invite the media to undertake such a consideration. The fact that the accused is not comfortable with the fallout can hardly shield her from the greater public good to understand the merits of the case at hand.
