Love don’t live here anymore…
Things are starting to look awfully shaky for Matt Lauer over there at the NBC as talk is starting to hatch that it might be high time that Matt Lauer be asked to leave the show after the debacle off Ann Curry‘s ouster this summer and the continuing dismal ratings showing of the Today show.
Tells one former unnamed NBC news executive to the nydailynews which has some wondering if the stage is now being set for Matt Lauer’s imminent exodus:
“This problem is not going to go away until Matt Lauer does. He’s great, but fairly or unfairly, his brand is damaged.”
The comment comes pursuant to Jim Bell, long time supporter and advocate of Matt Lauer being forced from the show as its producer and now replaced with big time fan and supporter of Ann Curry, Alexandra Wallace as higher ups struggle to deal with mounting ratings slump that have continued despite the ouster of Ann Curry who was initially blamed for the run.
In fact many believe Ms Curry’s ouster may have exacerbated viewer repulsion and many have to date blamed Matt Lauer as the chief instigator of her ouster despite Mr Lauer’s insistence that he was sick of being the fall guy which led to Jim Bell stepping up to take the heat and subsequently losing his job this week.
According to radaronline the shift has got Matt very anxious (can anyone guess why?) as Jim Bell’s replacement, Alexandra Wallace is set to make some big changes with the show.
Reveals a source to radar: Alexandra is going to be shaking things up on the show in order to get it back on top. For instance, against Matt and Jim Bell‘s long-time stance of only having NBC-paid experts to comment on current events in the news, which has made the show feel very, very stale, Alexandra plans on using non-NBC staffers to do that.
Point outs another NBC media insider to the nydailynews: “You look at GMA and they’ve got it going. They come across like a family, and the approach is appealing and feels fresh. They’ve got that morning TV chemistry, which the current regime at TODAY just seems to have let slip away.”
Also noticeable has been Ann Curry’s absence this last month as she has once again been snubbed from the show despite previous statements that she’s be making frequent contributions as a special correspondent. It also is said that relations between Matt Lauer and Ann Curry remain frosty where as relations between Ann Curry and Alexandra Wallace are warm and very personal leading some to wonder what might be on the horizon if NBC aren’t able to reclaim first slot in the morning show stakes?
As an aside it’s no secret that Matt Lauer doesn’t like the fact that Alexandra Richards is a big advocate of Ann Curry’s. What also may be concerning Matt Lauer is the fact that he and Wallace have a shaky terse history which may or may not lead to him being eye balled out the door should things not get better at the show, although some including Katie Couric, former Today show anchor argue that too much focus on meaningless content and trivial content has led to the show suffering dismay from viewers….
