It seems relations between Ann Curry and NBC are not necessarily ‘amiably’ adjusting since her outset last month.
Case in point, the former co anchor’s jaw boning about the outlet failing to live up to its promise of giving her air time with the Today show.
Since being dropped the former co anchor has complained that she was deprived a berth in the coverage of the 2012 Olympic games and was only recently packed and sent to London after rumbling to studio heads.
Said a source: “However, for reasons not revealed to Ann, she was told shortly before the Olympics that her role covering the games was going to be scaled back, drastically. Ann was extremely disappointed because she had been looking forward to the games for a very long time. Ann will be appearing on the TODAY show either Thursday or Friday this week and will be contributing to coverage of the closing ceremonies next Sunday,”
Meanwhile, for the first time in a generation, Good Morning America beat TODAY in the key 25-54 demographic last week. TODAY appears to have beaten GMA this week as expected because of the Olympics.
With respect to Ann Curry being deprived a spot in the opening ceremonies of the London Olympics, insider sources have intimated she was purposefully kept away from hosting any Olympics coverage to give her replacement Savannah Guthrie a chance to shine.
However, after the show pulled in poor ratings on the first day of the Olympics coverage NBC flew fellow presenter Hoda Kotb out to London to help Guthrie and co-hosts Matt Lauer, Natalie Morales and Al Roker. Perhaps as a kind gesture they have now decided to also fly in Ann Curry, but one suspects its simply to keep her quiet and to keep the pr machine well greased….
