Making the rounds in public horrors includes a disturbing video as caught by a next door neighbor of a Californian water agency official Anthony Sanchez for repeatedly whipping their child all because they failed to catch a baseball.
It’s hardly for the frail ( I had to stop after 30 seconds but forced myself to watch it in its entirety later) but one has to wonder what was Sanchez thinking when he went to bat against his step son? Of course it doesn’t help he’s a public official, not that public officials are expected to be the moral leaders of our times or have their own inconsistencies to come clean with. But for a baseball game? Or maybe there’s something just deeper going on.
So much for abusing children, even if on some level you think you are the abused Mr Sanchez….
As an aside, Lt Scott Sheppeard who was called in to investigate the incident had this to offer:
‘Every parent in the state of California has the right by law to discipline their child, when you cross the line between what’s legal and what’s not legal is if the infliction of injury.’
Legal or in this case entirely displaced?
