Bomb magazine celebrated its 31st anniversary Monday night, at Capitale in Soho, with celebrities, renowned artists and entrepreneurs, alike. Klaus Biesenbach, Director of MoMA PS1 and Chief Curator at Large at the Museum of Modern Art, Marsha Norman, Pulitzer-prize winning playwright and Richard Serra, renowned sculptor were honored and given a Pink BOMB by Patti Smith, Hal Foster and Theresa Rebeck.

Several phenomenal paintings, photographs and sketches were showcased in the venue’s atrium. Values ranging from $1,000-$35,000, the pieces had minimum bids of about half the works’ retail values. Jennifer Bartlett’s $35,000 untitled piece, Elena Berriolo, Andrea Blum, James Nares’ $7,500 untitled work and more were handed over as courtesy emblems for the silent auction portion of the evening.

According to Scallywag, Patti Smith wasn’t too particularly wild about him asking her about the significance of art and music as a cultural binary. Then again Scallywag sure picks them questions. Richard Serra on the other hand was a bit more forthcoming when he revealed he never meant to become a sculptor but rather it was simply a situation that it has always been his nature. He also revealed amongst other things he grew up working in a mill factory and that by design he prefers to be a bit of a recluse.

Sponsored by Tito’s vodka, artists and contributors alike mingled and shined. Conversations, catering and joyous participants helped celebrate the quarterly creative magazine’s 31 years of success in style and elegance. The evening’s Benefit Committee included:  Marina Abramović, The Asen Foundation/ Scott Asen, Luhring Augustine, Elizabeth Baker, Mahnaz, Adam Bartos, Ross Bleckner, Bloomberg, Karin Waisman, Carlows Brillembourg, Paul Cantor and more.
