barely a chest hair and a full head of hair- which says more about the negation of a man’s masculinity than the celebration of it. In fact could we posit that the celebration of the effeminate nature of ~~some~~ men is high on the radar? Which on its own isn’t necessarily a bad thing but on another level a coveted attempt to force men into some sort of compliance that isn’t necessarily in a man’s make up- even if we agree seeing a man being sensitive is a good thing, asking him to replicate the image of a nubile 22 year old boy is perhaps taking things to extreme.

But implicit in the objectification in the male form is women as much so many of them have told us otherwise in the past is the fact that a great many of them do actually care how us men look. Which is to say, women are now beginning to increasingly hold the upper hand when it comes to sexual mating and us men are feeling the squeeze-shape or ship out goes the phrase.

It might be one thing for a 24 year old man to be penniless and gorgeous but another thing for him to be 34, penniless and gorgeous, and forget about being 44, penniless and gorgeous (assuming the belly stomach hasn’t already found you…). A man now has to be striking it, socially revered and gorgeous at least a woman just has to be considered hot. Not that women can be desirable for many other virtues (clever, talented, ambitious) that are so often socially overlooked and downplayed. Which is perhaps a round about way of saying getting laid might be getting more difficult for us guys as we now have to concentrate on flying fighter jets, looking like Brad Pitt and having enough money to take our fancy impromptu trips to the exotic, a marketer’s wet dream and no doubt so many women’s. Me, I’ll stick to my slight paunch, my red wine and my afternoon ‘smoko,’ and the occasional trip to the contentious. Heaven forbid, a man has got to be a man, even if he has a few hairs on his chest. Right ladies?
