Before dinner, partiers enjoyed sumptuous aperitifs by Canard Inc., washed down with cocktails courtesy of Belvedere Vodka. Other sponsors included BET NetworksBooz Allen HamiltonVerizon and United Airlines.

In addition to sponsoring the evening, United Airlines has also provided transport for the dance troupe on a regular basis, flying them from show to show.

After the cocktail hour wound down, Tunie and Generet took to the stage to introduce Brown and his dancers, but not before issuing two awards: The first was presented to Janice Combs (Mother of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs) in absentia, the 2011 Inspiration Award. United Airlines also received the 2011 Corporate Leadership Award.

Thereafter, Brown and his crew of seven presented his work, On Earth Together, to the musical stylings of Stevie Wonder. Brown moved with the same fluidity and grace as dancers twenty years his junior. The audience, in rapt attention, applauded loudly for each routine.

No small amount of care and devotion went into making this night a special one; for the hosts, the guests and of course, for the dancers themselves. Support for the arts has never been more vital, and companies like Evidence make their way because it’s clear what it means to them. It’s only… everything.
