Capturing the electric and uninhibited era of punk rock and the allure of underground hip hop became way of life for notable photographers David Corio and Janette Beckman for a decade in the early 80s. This past Thursday evening, at the Morrison Hotel Gallery in NYC, Corio and Beckman displayed their collective photographs of the era the revolutionized the music industry with ‘Catch the Beat’ : The Roots of Punk and Hip Hop Photographs by Janette Beckman & David Corio.”
The gallery was transformed into a mausoleum of passion, art, and beat as black and white photographs of revolutionary artists such as George Clinton, Boy George, Iggy Pop, The Police, and Run DMC provided a remarkable juxtaposition of Punk and Hip Hop to catapult and flare discussion between attendees as well as the artists themselves.
