A.Z. Araujo 2011 Fall RTW; a taste of South America

Animal and denim prints made their presence known in several of Araujo’s looks.  Python belts, leopard bikinis and snake-skin speedos added an element of surprise while classic white and black solid colored suits provided balance to his more over-the-top outfits.  Playing with asymmetrical construction and using a variety of fabrics made each piece unique and memorable.

Perhaps an unlikely comparison but the image of Taylor Momsen somehow popped into my head nearing the final looks.  The quirky feather hats and eccentric side buns used to style Araujo’s female models resembled an older, more sophisticated Cindy Lou Who from How The Grinch Stole Christmas in which Momsen played the part.  With her everyday style mainly consisting of barely-there clothing and black thigh-high lace leggings, it was hard ignoring the similarities.

This example of transformation makes Araujo’s collection extremely versatile.  He successfully creates swimwear that appeals to rockers and girly girls alike and with just the right accessories his designs have the ability to reflect the mood of its wearer.
