Balliencourt’s latest work with the omni present battle sign – Je m’en fous (‘I don’t give a shit’) acts in this series to compel the viewer to reach into their subconscious mind and as allusions of doorways and portals lead us into our inner selves, deftly instigated via the use of hazy colorful patinas appearing as a mirage, wistfully merging into a whirlwind at various epicenters, lines on the canvas as opposed to the street corridors or building facades that Balliencourt is known for.
Countenancing the duality of being, the darkness and lightness, the exterior and interior, depth and shallowness, Balliencourt’s figurative and abstract tendencies serve to act as a conduit not just to her own personal interpretation of herself and her own state of mind but by use of colorful, often fluorescent color flexing in and out into perceived compartmentalized zones into our own ever revolving subconscious. A definitive statement if one is to judge the veneer of our increasingly estranged strange times where what passes for cohesion and multiplicity of images and suggestions must eventually pass what our consciousness is capable of tolerating and delving into…
