The demise of the Chelsea Hotel.

Please enjoy some of my favorites from our dear friend Linda Troeller’s (who has coincidentally been based at the Chelsea Hotel for the last 15 years) recently self released montage “Chelsea Hotel Atmosphere: An Artist’s Memoir.”

Says Linda : ‘The 120 photo page self-published book includes letters from residents to the hotel and the show has 24 color prints, 16×20 matted. This exhibition opened in 2009 at the Sol Mednick Gallery, Philadelphia and traveled to Melkweg Gallery, Amsterdam and the Leipzig Foto-Festival, Germany. I will speak about the Chelsea Hotel project at the Empire State College Workshop, “Women in Photography” October 30, 2010.’

  1. It’s inevitable. The baby boomers will slowly be selling off their property for peanuts, to developers who have no sense of history and legacy. The only possible way to save the original structure is to commodify its legend into a sort of theme park for kids who have no idea who Sid & Nancy are (and don’t give a shit) – i.g: CBGB by Varvatos. At this point, with all the underage flashing teeny boppers hogging headlines, Don Hill’s might as well be owned and operated by Hot Topic and open it up to tweens.
