Rachel Robidoux and Jennifer Mee

The world first met Jennifer Mee in 2007 when she had a mysterious disorder which made her hiccup almost 55 times a minute for over 1 month straight. At the time she tried everything possible to remedy the situation all the while becoming a sympathetic media sensation until this weekend that is when it turned out our collective hiccup girl has admitted culpability in the murder of a man during robbery.

The news of today: Now, Jennifer Mee is in the news again, but this time it isn’t for innocent hiccuping. The 19-year-old Mee was arrested for the murder of a man during a robbery. Mee allegedly lured the victim to a specific location where her friends robbed him at gunpoint and then killed him. The victim’s name is Shannon A. Griffin, and he was apparently shot several times during the robbery.

Which begs the question how does our collective darling go from sympathetic afflicted victim to that of perpetuating lethal grief on others?

Rachel Robidoux Jennifer Mee’s mother perhaps offers us some clues:

Gawker: ‘I always said, her case of the hiccups wasnt a case of the hiccups, it was a curse of the hiccups. […] All of a sudden, people knew her name, and she would talk to them on different chat sites. They’d act like they knew her when they really didn’t. She’s very naive. She was getting herself into stuff where she didn’t really realize what she was doing.’

Which leads us to wonder does everyone who ends up with incurable hiccups and ends up becoming a kind of media star become a murderer or the more plausible solution that it really doesn’t take a bad case of hiccups or media fame to commit murder just the base inclination to get what you want at any price- even that of another person’s life.
