In a case that defies logic but one guesses is perhaps atypical in certain quarters died after a night after downing a pint of vodka in 4 seconds. What makes this case more interesting is that the young man was found to have traces of the dance drug mephedrone in his system and that his drinking mates had tried to discourage Richard Davies to downing the vodka in one go.
UK Daily Mail:The 29-year-old had been drinking with friends before the alcohol – the equivalent of 13 pints of lager – knocked him into a stupor.
He was found unconscious and not breathing in a pool of his own blood, and died hours later.
Which should beg the question does one need to really go to extremes to have a good time or is it just culturally moribund that if you’re going to have a good time, you’re going to have end up getting ‘shit faced?’
Mr Davies’ best friend Christopher Crooks told the inquest yesterday how he desperately tried to save his life after he was found unconscious at about 4.30pm on January 16.
Was Mr Crooks also on a bender, or was by his own virtue by attempting to reign in his mate at least himself aware that certain behavior could and does come with savage consequences? Consequences that Richard Davies either overlookled, didn’t care to consider or the notion that perhaps this was just a stunt that would leave his mates laughing and with hilarious memories. Memories which have unfortunately gone quite sour…
