While many of these pieces will certainly translate to the street, I wouldn’t describe the collection as wearable. I imagine only the very brave wearing the fringed leather pants and cowboy hats. The outfits as a whole seemed more like costumes: as though the inspiration overtook the designs. Caricatures rather than modern interpretations.
The models themselves contributed to costumey feel. There may not have been front-row celebrities present, but there were stars on the runway: Katia Kokoreva, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Lily Donaldson and Chanel Iman were among the supermodels walking for Lauren. Their recognizable faces broke the fourth wall: I couldn’t truly dedicate myself to the idea that I was in Texas’ formative years seeing such familiar, modern faces.
