Reviewing Ports 1961’s Spring / Summer 2011 line is all about perspective. Most understand that fashion can be different things to different people, and opinions on Ports 1961 are going to vary depending on whether one views the industry through the lens of art, commerce, presentation, or utility. Here’s a hint: Ports is only weak in one.
This season marked the debut of Fiona Cibani as the creative director of the line. She officially took the reigns from sister Tia this summer. Previously Fiona spearheaded the relaunch of Ports International, a line targeting China’s emerging luxury market, but you won’t notice an oriental influence now. Instead, desert landscapes inspired functional separates and fluid draping.
