Meghan Walsh said “Salaam!” to fashion week at the Ramscale Penthouse where she debuted her Spring/Summer 2011 line “Blank Silk”–her first professional collection, in fact. Jazzy Indian pop music played over the speakers and silk swags hung against the walls of a spacious loft in the West Village that overlooked the water. All that was missing was the incense.

Walsh displayed a facility for neat, hip looking separates and sent out several beautifully draped gowns that could evolve into some red carpet looks. Walsh has degrees in Painting, Graphic Design and Eastern Religion from Elon University and her many interests show in her facility with organic earth tone colors and her clear desire to convey Indian sartorial culture to American audiences. Sending her variations on saris and hijabs to wander among the tiered setting, Walsh created a collection that she says is inspired by the American 20′s and 30′s and traditional Rajasthani culture.
