And there were other tales of Mr Lagerfeld not holding himself bound to preconceived notions of what anything could be or should be.

“Respect? What does that mean? I respect nothing, only the present and what can be made of the present….”

And of regret. “I have no regrets. It’s a waste to have regrets….”

Of trends- “that in creation one can never be bound by them….”

Of creation- “I don’t believe in what came before, but only what can come now, this is what fashion is for me.”

Finally Mr Lagerfeld came to receive his ‘visionary award,’ and as he spoke about the honor and his grand fondness of those in the room with him he then turned to quickly come off stage (one suspects Mr Lagerfeld’s real stage is the body of work he creates and the aura of his being as opposed to actually being held for spectacle) before remembering that he had in fact forgot to collect his award.

“I had to come back on stage and collect the award, after all I could never leave without it.”

In so much Mr Lagerfield accepted his award, his presence and unsparing influence and contribution to aesthetics and the possibility of the now was our collective award.

Kudo’s Mr Lagerfeld. Kudo’s to you!
