Sicilian photographer accidentally killed by wedding couple.
A Sicilian couple, celebrating was should have been the happiest day of their lives, accidentally shot and killed their wedding photographer when the gun he had them posing with went off. 45 year old Calogero Scimea, who was a fill in photographer for the wedding, was shot in the head by a bullet that dislodged from the hunting rifle they posed with as he was taking pictures.
NY Daily News: Rifles are legal on the scenic Italian island that’s known for – among other things – spawning the Mafia. It’s also a tradition for guns to be fired off at family events and not unheard of for partygoers to get hurt.
Who knew that the wedding traditions of Sicily and West Virginia were so similar? One would imagine that there may be a few sawed off .45’s carried in the jacket pockets of the party-goers, but hunting rifles in the wedding photos? We thought that only happened south of the Mason-Dixon Line.
The couple and their families are staying mum about the incident, and although they rescheduled their wedding so that police could investigate the freak accident, they have been uncooperative as to answering questions about who was handling the gun and how it accidentally went off.
It brings a whole new meaning to “Leave the gun, take the cannoli.”
