Lightweight's piece.

“Why this piece in particular?”

“I like to draw very animated, stretched out images. I’m kind of going for something pop but definitely graffiti. You know that feeling you get at a party; when everyone’s really having a good time, good energy? I want people to see my art and get that same feeling. Oh you know, I have my darker images, but generally I’m trying to capture that bright energetic feel.”

“Why the triple canvases?”

“Well it gives it a lot more depth, I think it brings it closer into that fourth dimension.”

“And what are you looking at going forward?”

“Clothing, not your typical though. Something definitely new, but going back to that original feel.”

For once I felt that something real was happening, that some group of people was taking our generation, our art and the people appreciating it to a new level while completely sidestepping the pretension that so often seems to accompany most of the art we see these days.

I stood staring at a piece done over a roadsigns, the original white background and red crossed out circle had been written or sticker-ed over.

“What do you think about that piece?” A guy next to me asked.

“I like it, I really like how he kept the original sign.”

“Oh man that guy’s a Nobody.”

“A nobody?”

“Yea,” he smiles, “that’s me.”

“You?”

“Yea, I’m nobody.”

“What inspires you to do this stuff?”

“I like leaving images around, I call them urban hieroglyphics. Leaving something for the future; kinda like cavemen. Leaving stories, lessons. Rather than just self-gratification. I like to have art that interacts with the viewer in some way.”

  1. Thanks Victor and Arthur, you both did a great job coering the show. And Props to Mike and Frankie for making it happen.

  2. I’ve always loved graffiti as art. This is also thinking out of the box. I like the “nobody” idea. Take the ego out.

  3. Great title, thanks for covering the exhibition. Much props to Frankie, Mike, Oz, and all the participating artists for contributing to our moment in history.
