Pushing Progress is a company and workshop founded by Calen J. Kurka, the executive director and Chris Hale, the assistant director. Supported further by Maya Escueta an original company member, the team first met at Broadway Dance Center ten years ago where Kurka and Hale now teach. Melissa Wolfe-Rosebro also trained them, in 2007 and continues to support the company.
Begun three years ago as a means to supplying aspiring dancers the technical foundations, anatomical awareness and sophistication necessary to reaching their goals, the company accessibly hosts festivals, workshops, and an intensive 8- month intensive training program that culminates in a dance showcase. Since 2010, The Field—a NGO that supports arts and administration, has fiscally sponsored them.
