Two Master Clowns Working Outside The Box.

A word on the pacing: The pieces of the story segue seamlessly into one another, you don’t find yourself waiting for the next thing to happen because you’re enjoying this moment so much.

When you’re a kid, and you see a magic show, and quarters and rabbits and doves are appearing and disappearing in the blink of an eye, you gasp and you wonder ‘How’d they do that?’ Well, due to a packed house, I sat off to house right to see the show, and from my vantage point I could see into the box.  On occasion, I saw how they did it.   It made the show no less magical.

Shapiro and Musante first became friends & roommates in 2003, at UCLA. I asked Peter where his character’s boisterousness came from. He said, “That childlike energy is where Summer and I are when we’re together.” Shapiro attended the Clown Conservatory in San Francisco, while Peter picked up a good deal of his physical chops from her and from his co-stars in New York’s own Blue Man Group, where he still performs.

Legs and All had several sold-out performances in San Francisco’s own Fringe Festival, and since winning a grant, Peter and Summer have worked cross-continentally—she lives in Frisco, he lives in New York–to bring it to the Big Apple.

Now the good news: The show isn’t over. Legs and All has been given an extended run of two extra performances: Wednesday the 10th at the Tank, 354 W. 45th St at 9:30; and Friday the 12th at the Kraine Theatre, 85 E. 4th St, at 8:30. Go see it. Go.  You won’t be sorry.
