Devorah Rose, you either love her or hate her. A mainstay on the social and editorial fixture (she is the Editor in Chief of the highly acclaimed ‘Social Life’) we decided to take her aside on the eve of her debut on the highly new inflammatory program CW’s ‘High Society,’ and find out for ourselves what makes her tick, how she feels about her impending stardom, society and of course those in the media (never mind her equally contentious cast mate Jules Kirby) that like to occasionally (metaphorically speaking) ‘pound her to the pavement.’

What follows is an intriguing take on the current darling du jour. No matter how you feel about her she’s certainly got us all talking and we’re willing to bet that she’s going to be here for a while…That said, you be the judge; villainess or victim?– Scallywag.


SCV: How is that you got involved with the production of the reality show High Society and why?

DR: Well there was this stork and he dropped me down one of the producer’s chimneys. Oh wait, wrong myth…

SCV: Apart from this show, what is your opinion on most reality shows?

DR: One of the few shows I watch on TV is Law&Order: SVU and now I’m tuning in to High Society as well. I’m actually incredibly entertained by High Society – it’s a train-wreck of epic proportions.

SCV: It seems that the producers of High Society have deliberately set to ridicule the cast and have some sadistic he said / she said game going on…What do you think?

DR:I think the show is a bit more tongue-in-cheek than it’s being given credit for. The plasticity of this social scene is clearly highlighted but, then again, if anyone is shocked by what they see, just imagine what happens when the cameras are off. At the end of the day, the social circuit is so saccharine it’s been known to cause cancer in lab rats.  And apparently in Jules Kirby too.

(editor’s note- it’s no secret that these two have a venomous rapport with each other, which if you are an ardent fan of the show you will clearly have figured out by now…)

    Great girl this Devorah Rose you may all think ! She has the guts to mention St Barts here while she left a sour impression of herself on our beautiful island … She got all free goodies from everyone in exchange of free advertising in a publication called black-book. She got free different hotel rooms, free car rental and much more during her FREE stay… I was kind enough to give her and Christian Laliberte a brand new Mini Cooper convertible rental for free, in exchange for it she said she’d mention my company in her publication, which never happened … On the day she left and when we were supposed to get our Mini Cooper back, no sign of life from Devorah and Christian,Toiny hotel told me she and Christian left suddenly with a ferry boat very early in the morning. Very strange was my first reaction, but I wasn’t surprised when we found our Mini Cooper completely wrecked, parked in a remote parking lot of the hotel.Devorah Rose and Christian Laliberte got so drunk that night, wrecked the car that was given to them free of charge, they left ME (the owner of the car rental company) with over 1200 usd dollars worth of damages, they decided to leave early in the morning (they were supposed to elave in the PM) like thieves so they wouldn’t have to face the NICE person that accepted to GIVE them a brand new rental car free of charge. I was even nice enough to not ask for a credit card number …To this day, Devorah ROSE never paid a single dime for the damages that she and Christian Laliberte caused to our brand new Mini Cooper.So Devorah ROSE, PLEASE DO NOT EVEN THINK of coming back to St Barth because we do not need dishonest people like you over here.And if anyone is curious about this issue, I kept nice photos of the car she and Christian wrecked … [email protected]

  7. With respect to class and Tinsley Mortimer, this is what Devorah recently had to say;

    So, Tins: You can fool Gawker, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Vogue and so many others into thinking you are some kind of model of sophistication when you really have the morals, will power and hunger for camera time of a drunken co-ed flashing a Girls Gone Wild camera. I can see what you are really like and I only hope that others come around.

In terms of Ms. Devorah Rose, despite my not understanding or always appreciating her fame dance in the reality circuit has done something that few of these cats have done, which is to compete in an intensively competitive environment with folks who have a greater infrastructure of support, media empires and a network of rich powerful friends to promote them. While Devorah well knows my distaste for much of the reality genre, since she does not fit this caricature of an it girl or come from the most powerful of New York families and does not have Godfathers opening up doors and promoting her at every turn, that she has managed to make something out of nothing is to her credit. Let’s remind ourselves, this is an industry that has made Ramona “Crazy Eyes” Singer a household name while another “Stepford Wife” in Rachelle Hruska has vaulted to media prominence. Moreover, there is more Democracy at Social Life Magazine than alot of publications, filled with people with many contrary views of the world and of each other. Nevertheless, my belief is that if these folks truly figure out the deal with Devorah and Devorah can deal with less camera face time, she is someone who would likely be quite adept behind the scenes and my gutt is that production is where she will ultimately end up. Fact is that not many of the women you could interview could put a string of coherent sentences together or communicate as precisely as Ms. Rose
