Winter Wickedness Event at Chelsea Art Museum.

YA runs events like this one quarterly as part of their mission to “engage with the art scene” in New York. With few exceptions, this was a twenty- and thirty-something crowd, shiny and fashion-forward. It was a rare mix of clear fashion archetypes: Women wore striking dresses. Button-downs-and-blazers rubbing shoulders with the fedora-donning ironic-bow-tie set. People were as much a part of what was on display as the art—and they clearly attracted more attention. It seemed everyone looking over their shoulder to see who would next capture their gaze.

At one point, I stood on the landing overlooking the mass of humanity. The movement had stopped, because there was nowhere to go–it was too packed with people. Art was everywhere, and perhaps for a moment one could argue the patrons were busy ‘absorbing’ each other… giving new meaning, I suppose, to the term “live art.”
