By 9pm, guests alike were treated to the splendid visage of the grand march of dignitaries and diplomats to later be accompanied by the chaperoning of debutantes onto the ballroom dance floor. Hence began a wondrous montage of white gowns and long flapping black tails as guests wafted in perfect choreographed rhythm. I was later told by one of the debutantes, the lovely Carina Covella, that rehearsals had been averaging up to 4 hours a day leading up to the event, and dare we admit it was certainly worth it to witness the wondrous flotilla of arched backs, chiseled cheek bones and the dandy set being far too beautiful.

One of the highlights must have included the unicorn drawn led sled (yes unicorns!) that brought in two of the principal stars of the Metropolitan Opera, whose jumping around and continual smiling made this author wonder how such things could possibly be done and maintained. From there it was dinner again (the affair serves dinner up to 4 times that evening…) before guests were being led by Heinz Heidenrecih for an amusing session of choreographed quadrilles.

At one point I was able to garner the attention of American Idol star and heart throb Constantine Maroulis who it appeared had a hard time fending off the photographers and many wandering eyes. When asked how he felt about being at the event, he paused and considered the expansive scene, almost gushing and offered he was thrilled to be here. That in fact he had just come off stage and was very much enjoying the  unfolding pomp and revelry.
