As with last season there was a palpable buzz surrounding the big brand – Burberry. Forget the tent at Somerset House Burberry got the style set trekking over to the grounds of Chelsea College of Art where a purposely built tent housing an extremely glossy catwalk seated 1,000 guests. In a bid for global domination the show was not only streamed live (in 3D in some places) to invited guests in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Tokyo and Dubai but pieces were available to pre-order, albeit for a limited time only, via the Burberry website. A clever bit of global marketing indeed.

As for the clothes Christopher Bailey gave a huge nod to the services – military and cadet girls being the key theme throughout. Sheepskin flying jackets, parkas, trench coats and officer’s mess jackets were brimming with hardware and updated styling details. Boxy outerwear shapes gave way to body-con underlayers sexing up the collection in jersey, lace and satin. Bailey worked with a base of military hues such as deep navy and khaki and injected flashes of electric blue, mustard, berry and cerise into the spectrum.

Pulling in a fest of celebs and fashion’s front line; Anna Wintour, Mario Testino, Uma Thurman, Mia Wasikowska, Kate Hudson Claire Danes, the list goes on – Burberry, once again, delivered another winning collection that is bound to keep those profits rolling in rather nicely.
