These pictures of dancers with perfect form were a testament to the man of the hour, Ronald K. Brown, founder and artistic director of Evidence. Brown has been dancing since he was in 2nd grade, and his dedication to dance is evident. Also evident is his talent; onstage he is radiant and his body is like an instrument. For him, dance is a way of communicating, of creating a feeling of community responsibility and as he moves, his message is clear.

The dance brought together ideas about good and evil, and maintaining one’s integrity in a rapidly changing world. Brown is passionate about combining modern dance with traditional African dance and educating people about their history and the history of African dance. His troupe is soon traveling to Senegal to teach master classes and shortly thereafter, they will perform at the Olympics. Despite his many accomplishments like founding Evidence, choreographing for Alvin Ailey and more, Brown is humble and grateful for “how fortunate I have been to work with some talented and generous artists, over the past 24 years.” His artists are talented, and the group is clearly tight knit. After performing, they joined the festivities and laughed and celebrated as a beautiful, fluid unit.
