TS: I began auditioning for parts and started booking them. It kind of amazes me…
SCV: What about the music?
TS: Talent shows. I did a whole bunch, and I kept winning those too.
SCV: Not bad. I’m curious what’s your attitude about teenage pop stars?
TS: Well i know there’s this stereo typical idea that they are all manufactured and geared to a certain audience, a certain kind of expectation.
SCV: Expectation?
TS: Yes, you know to be contained, to come off as sweet, well behaved and giving you bubble gum themes.
SCV: Does that include you? Do you give off bubble gum themes?
TS: Well, I think one has to be conscious of what the audience wants to hear, but then again I’m also very conscious of what I want to do, of what I want to explore.
SCV: Which is?
TS: Well, when I was in NYC recording with Chris Young he really encouraged me to explore my own feelings, things that I want to express. One of the songs on the track is called – ‘Stronger,’ and that was me living through my friend’s pain after her family lost their jobs and they had to learn to re adapt. I was sensitive to that and I wanted to reflect upon something that I think so many people are going through right now.
I go to school with Tonie and not only is she a huge slut, but she sucks at singing.
‘Nuff said.
I’m a huge Tonie Swain fan. This is an amazing article.. well done. Hope to see more with Tonie soon.
