Gossip columnist/ journalist William Deshert (who I would later be dancing with at Nicky Hilton’s table at the W) was explaining to me the importance of “frenemies”. His “frenemy” was his friend and guest of honor Anthony Haden-Guest.
His vicious commentary on his friend’s books, which most notably included “The Last Party: Studio 54, Disco and the Culture of the Night” that was turned into a movie about Studio 54, had me so nervous, that I was debating on whether or not to mention him in this article.
Anyway, Anthony, (who I also ended up dancing with at the W) was ironically charming and as the night fizzled out, he promised to add me on Facebook. A self proclaimed man of discriminating tastes when it came to adding Facebook friends (which Deshert promptly disagreed and denounced sweet Anthony as an attention whore that requested up to 200 friends a day), I was honored. A legendary writer interested in reading my daily musings, I decided before I added him, I would have to make my Facebook status something fabulously and ironically profound (think Richard Prince). We parted ways with promises to meet up later either on the dance floor at another event in Miami or in Facebook’s cyber world.
