At one point Patti Smith wondered aloud if the piece was just the young Michelangelo (he was purportedly 15 when he created the work) luxuriating in his creative intoxication. Others wondered if, having come out of the dark ages, the artisans were now applying a commitment to pure aesthetics and pure beauty (has this aspect really changed?).

In any event, it was a delightful evening that was impeccably catered and left many of us dizzy with delight and forever grateful that beauty, talent and form will always be around us. Assuming we continue to navigate its kindred aesthetics, there will be more loans between the US and French governments and for that we will be forever grateful.

Hooray for culture and for delightful society that made the evening seem way too short..
